HOW TO MAKE PHYLLO CONES (WITH ALUMINUM FOIL)

Thaw one roll of fillo dough, following thawing instructions on package.

Preheat oven to 350ºF.

Cut aluminum foil to about 10” x 5”.  Fold in half lengthwise to form a 5” x 5” square.  Taking one corner, tuck and roll to the opposite side on the diagonal, forming a cone.  Adjust foil size based on desired cone size.

Unroll and cover the fillo pastry sheets with a damp towel or plastic wrap to prevent drying out.

Place one sheet of fillo on a cutting board and lightly coat with cooking spray. Layer and repeat with 3 more sheets. (Recipe or personal preference may substitute brushing with melted butter, olive oil or egg wash.)  Cut layered fillo in half lengthwise and widthwise to form four rectangles.

Coat aluminum foil cone with cooking spray.

Place mold tip at one corner of the fillo and wrap around the mold.  Lightly coat with cooking spray. Repeat with additional cones. TIP: Do not wrap fillo too tightly around the cone or removal of the mold will be difficult.

Reroll unused fillo sheets and follow storing instructions on package.

Place cones at least 1″ apart on ungreased cookie sheet or baking pan. Bake about 10 minutes or until fillo is golden brown, rotating half way through for even browning.

Remove from oven and carefully remove from forms after 2-3 minutes. Cool completely and add desired fillings.
